Description
Women are the majority of caregivers and patients in the current health care system. This course discusses the various forces- historical, political, sociological, economic, biological, and psychological - that create and maintain women's utilization of, and service to, the American health care system. Among the topics to be investigated are sexism in health care, health and safety for women in the workplace, socialization of females as patients and health workers, nurses' efforts to gain autonomy, and some women's health issues. Prerequisite: SOC 1000 or 1600 or permission of instructor.
