CHEMISTRY Minor

The science of chemistry focuses on the study of the chemical work including the properties of atoms, molecules, compounds and polymers, and how they interact in biological or environmental systems as well as in technological applications. Upper=level chemistry courses support and provide additional dimension to the study of the environment or of living organisms. The chemistry minor is appropriate for any students looking to deepen their scientific background in chemistry, including but not limited to students preparing for careers in nursing, medicine, research, and technology. Students will gain knowledge and skills including implementation of the scientific method, instrumentation, data analysis, scientific writing, and applied mathematics.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the minor, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge in the core concepts of chemistry, which include structure, reactions and structural transformations and energy.

  2. Apply quantitative reasoning and critical thinking skills to both problem-solving and experimentation.

  3. Complete chemistry experiments utilizing appropriate techniques, instrumentation, and proper safety and data recording procedures.
