Visual & Performing Arts Programs (VPA)

The Department of Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) at Curry College serves as an interdisciplinary hub for the arts, offering courses and experiences that prepare students for meaningful careers while promoting global citizenship and transformative social engagement within our communities.

We offer majors and minors in Graphic Design and Studio Arts, as well as minors in Art History, Music, Dance, Photography, and Art Therapy.

We value multiple modes of learning and creative expression. Our Core Values include:

Creation:
Our students are makers and innovators who graduate with both expertise and hands-on experience in their chosen disciplines.

Voice:
We believe visibility is integral to the arts. We explore how systems of power shape artistic expression across history and contemporary culture. We emphasize self-advocacy and allyship as essential components of an artist’s voice.

Community-Facing Programming for Social Transformation:
Through community-based initiatives, internships, and collaborations with working artists, our programs inspire action and dialogue. We actively partner with a growing number of nonprofit organizations to create meaningful change through the arts.

All Curry students—regardless of their major—are eligible for consideration in the VPA Honors Society, our pathway to graduating with distinction in the arts.

Visual & Performing Arts Honors Society
Each spring, students demonstrating exceptional potential in a VPA discipline and a strong commitment to the department’s values are nominated by faculty for induction into the Honors Society, typically during their junior year.

Shine Awards
The Shine Award honors students in a VPA discipline who excel academically and contribute meaningfully to the Curry community.
