MGT 2020 - Negotiation and Conflict Management - 3 credits
Fall Semester
This course is designed to explore concepts and tools for leaders in the global and diverse work environment of today and the future. We will examine the areas of Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. This course will begin with the theories of transactional and dispute resolutions through negotiation. Today's leaders must possess more than the required analytical skills, as they will need strong negotiation skills to get their solutions accepted and implemented. Lectures, discussions, and role-playing simulations are used to cover various topics, such as cross-cultural mentoring, abrasiveness, dangerousness, racism, sexism, whistleblowing, and ethics. Students explore the processes by which organizations typically resolve disputes. The course will continue with Conflict Resolution, which includes handling situations in which conflict already exists in the workplace and where it is latent, such as efforts to enter into contracts or forge partnerships or in the efforts to be a change agent within the organization. Students will explore organizational context and structure, leadership and communication styles, and sources of workplace disputes.
Prerequisite: BUS 1000.
