Description

This course will explore the trauma field within a restorativejustice context including an alternative way to addressviolence and heal trauma that is driven by relationships notsystems. Current trauma theories along with materials thatbuild resilience will be explored. Students will examine howhealing past and present traumas, building resiliency leadsto more healed communities. Students will explore a processthat is grounded in the reality that harm, trauma, violence,happen on the interpersonal familial, community based andstructural/institutional levels. Structural causes and conditionsthat create harm and give rise to interpersonal harms/traumaswill be examined. This course will be facilitated through aninterdisciplinary framework which combines the head and heartwith the aim of cultivating care, concern and compassion towardthose impacted by harm, violence, trauma. Students will alsodevelop skills that will allow them to more skillfully deal with thedestructive effects brought on by trauma exposure.
