Creating Positive Clsrm Commun

This short course will introduce pre-service and new teachers to strategies for building a positive classroom climate and community that fosters student responsibility and an ethic of caring in the classroom. By building a community of trust and respect, teachers prevent discipline problems before they arise, while simultaneously helping children take ownership for their own learning. Students in the course will learn how to conduct classroom meetings that focus on problem-solving and caring. Students will analyze case studies and videos to determine how the specific strategies learned in the course can be applied to specific classroom scenarios.
